1.     Review of September 29, 2003 meeting review.  The meeting review was accepted as corrected.  The correction was under #7. CTANY Update, second point: John DiMura reported that the Canalway is finishing up three projects in Montgomery County, and one in Brockport.  One in the Utica area is just starting.  [Changed addition is underlined.]

2.     Status of the Greenway/CDTC/Albany County Study

q       Jason Purvis indicated that a draft of the final report had not been received.  When it is received, it will be put on the webpage.

3.     Review of activities on Schenectady Trail Signage

q       With regard to the Scrafford Lane and SR 5S, Don Odell reported that Steve Feeney indicated that the installation of signs was underway, and would be completed within a couple of weeks.

q       Don Odell also reported that Steve Feeney indicated that good progress was being made by Schenectady County on the production of Mohawk-Hudson trailblazer signs.

q       Regarding the inventory of on-road route signage through the City of Schenectady, Don Odell still has to complete the material and forward such to Steve Feeney and Milt Mitchell.

4.     Update on the Union College/Ramada Inn situation.

q       Stephen McCorkell reported that NYSOPRHP design staff has met with the Union College consultant team.  Details are still to be worked out, but the Mohawk Hudson trail is to be continuous.  Union College needs access to their facilities through NYSOPRHP property.

q       The concern of those present is that the trail be “functional” for trail users.

4.     Recap of Countryside Exchange Program in Town of Colonie

q       Maggie Vinciguerra reported that the NFP [Local Organizing Committee?] is growing with 53 persons so far.  The request was made to Maggie that someone from this group come to regional canalway meetings in the future.

q       In response to questions about volunteer possibilities, Maggie indicated there may be some adopt-a-trail possibilities.

q       Paul Russell noted that there has been an adopt a greenspace program in the town for the last ten years.  The Town Conservation Advisory Committee has adopted a section from the Town Park parking lot to Dunns Ferry Road.

q       There was some discussion on the possibilities of trails in relationship to the reconfigured Albany Shaker Road, and British American Boulevard.  Also, discussed was how to cross SR 7, and possible traffic calming.

5.     Bikes on Buses

q       What is the CDTA policy on bikes on buses.  Ralph Pascale volunteered to call Dave Gehrs at CDTA and ask.

6.     Continued Discussion on Amenities on or near the Mohawk Hudson Bike Hike Trail.

q       This was ongoing following up on Steve Marsh’s report of the trail ride reported at the previous meeting.  There was some discussion of appropriate signage.  Also, it was noted that the nature of trail riding may change as Global Positioning System technology is improved and becomes more widely used.

7.     CTANY Update.  No report.  CTANY will meet in November.

8.     Regional Updates

q       Jason Purvis reported on the following:

·         A consultant design team has been chosen for the Troy Menands Bridge and Livingston Ave. Bridge regarding pedestrian and bicycling alternatives.

·         Requests for expressions of interest will go out soon for the Patroon-Greenway trail.

·         Teresa is still working on the new MHBHT map.

·         Jason will be participating in a national pedestrian scanning tour, which includes Portland, ME, Exeter, NH, Cambridge, MA, Seattle, WA and Portland, OR.  We will anxiously await his report.

q       Ralph Pascale reported on activities relative to Cohoes.  A committee will be meeting on boulevard design, which includes Delaware Ave. and SR 787.  There will also be a meeting with NYSOPRHP to explore some canal revitalization ideas.  The city is looking for some adaptive reuse and interpretive ideas and opportunities for the historic canal in the city.

q       Elaine Troy reported that Healthy Heart contracts are out for a number of projects including Capital District Community Gardens.  There will be a Walkable Community session in Rochester featuring Deb Spicer and Ivan Vamos.

q       Paul Russell noted that parks people, Frank Dean and Marsha Kees inparticular, shoudl be added.  John DiMura will provide.

q       John reported that 30 miles of trail from Canajoharie to Schoharie Crossing is complete, along with a six mile stretch in the Utica area.

q       Patrick Clear reported that ECOS is still working on a Montgomery County trail guide, and completion is expected in April 2004.

9.     Next Meeting.
