National Trails Day events -- June 1, 2002 from 9am to 12 noon -------------------------------------------------------------- Join us and thousands of outdoor enthusiasts June 1, 2002 for the 10th annual National Trails Day (NTD) celebration organized by American Hiking Society. Schenectady Chapter of the Adirondack Mountain Club is observing NTD by cleaning up the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail in the City of Schenectady. Come join us as we sweep, rake, trim, shovel and pick up trash to make the bike path a more enjoyable recreational space. The Chapter provides cookies, fruit, soda and juice. You provide the muscle (and favorite tool)! The first 24 people signed up for this event will receive a special NTD t-shirt, so sign up now for a fun morning. This project is being done with the cooperation of the City of Schenectady. This year’s location: Seneca Street entrance at 9am. That is the street that connects Maxon Road with Van Vranken Ave. We will be working on the bike path toward the intersection with Anthony Street. Call Stan Stoklosa at 383-3066 or e-mail Howard Halstead at halstead@ieee.org for information and registration. This event is held with the Friends of the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail. The mission of the Friends of the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail is to develop through public education and stewardship the historical, recreational, and economic opportunities of the Mohawk- Hudson Bikeway. For more information, see: http://www.geocities.com/mhbway The Preserves & Trails Sub-Committee of the Schenectady County Environmental Advisory Council is sponsoring a trail-side trash cleanup event for National Trails Day from 9:00 am till noon. The cleanup will take place along the Mohawk-Hudson Bike-Hike Trail from the Schenectady County Community College trail entrance west toward and along I-890. Anyone interested in participating should contact Stephen Feeney at the Schenectady County Planning Department (386-2225) or email: sfeeney@nycap.rr.com. After our trail clean, participants are invited to attend ADK's barbecue and ceremony gathering at Byron Park in Indian Lake, New York. This will include a hearty dinner and recognition for attending this National Trails Day event as well recognizing volunteers from ADK's stewardship programs mainly the Adopt-a-leanto and Trail Adopter Programs. There will also be a brief award ceremony recognizing those who have given a lifetime of dedication to the trail system. ------------------------------------------------------- What is National Trails Day?
