Bicycling and Pedestrian Safety Workshop

The New York Bicycling Coaliton (NYBC) Problem Solving Manual for Advoactes and Transportation Professionals strives to get a better understanding between advocates and bureaucrats and elected officials.
Advocates, in order to organize their membership, have an agenda. Bureaucrats on the other hand, have to carry out specific projects with minimal interference. Elected officials want to be responsive to the
electorate but there are often small groups with an agenda that is not compatible with the mainstream electorate. How can we get safely through this minefield?
Bicycle advocates need to become instant experts on the issue of roadbed configuration, State, and county regulations and other issues so that they can sit down with bureaucrats to convince them to adjust a  project to
accommodate bicyclists. They also have to understand that bureaucrats have to respond to elected officials and cannot always accommodate bicyclists unless elected officials sign off on the project changes.
How these exchanges take place can be experienced in a workshop using real life projects in your county.  See below for the dates in your area.  The NYBC manual guides a novice through some of the issues which might come up.
